As an HR Leader, being most helpful is all about getting yourself out of the way

HR plays a particular cross functional role in the Company. To be successful in your role, you are often required to operate outside of your comfort zone. This is a difficult ask and choosing to remain with that what you know is often a safe approach. However, it is important for good HR people to take the initiative and get involved in the business. Operating outside of that which you know takes courage and effort. Being helpful and being of service is not about you, it is about those who need your help, and those who rely on your support and guidance.

As Matt Church would say “You lead when the best version of you talks to the best version of us”.

When you are able to get yourself out of the way and realize that the help and support you are providing is not about you, that is when you present the best version of yourself.
