How do I want to be remembered? We often ask this question of ourselves.
What will be the legacy you leave once you are gone? Did you inspire others and encourage them to achieve what they believed impossible? Did you believe in others? Were you a good mentor and a wise coach? What example did you set? Were you kind and compassionate? Your legacy is not shaped at the end of your time – it is shaped every day by what you do and say. The relationships you have created and the manner in which you have treated people is what you leave behind.
I believe a legacy is determined by:
- Our value system – what we stand for and what we would not compromise on in any situation.
- Creativity and innovation to test the status quo – what did we do to make this a better world, a better and more sustainable environment and place to work for those who will come after we have gone?
- How we developed and guided those in our life entrusted to our leadership.
- How did we make people feel when they dealt or worked with us?
As with the beautiful words of Maya Angelou “If you’re going to live, leave a legacy. Make a mark on the world that can’t be erased”
