What if We Treat Change like an Experiment

It's about perceiving change as experimental, achievable and gratifying, not overwhelming.

1. Ideas, Insights and Inspirations

I relish the time spent in my garden - it's a source of immense fulfilment, joy, and happiness. Gardening is a tangible journey of progress, taste (the greens!) and experimentation. By experimentation, I mean exploring which plants thrive in sunlight, shade, or part shade and observing their growth patterns.

My latest venture? Transitioning my vegetable garden to hydroponics, a method promising to conserve up to 95% of water usage. Despite my initial lack of hands-on experience - my knowledge being confined to research, YouTube tutorials, and literature - I took the decision and invested in the necessary equipment to embark on this hydroponic journey.

It's not a lifelong commitment yet, nor a permanent addition to my garden, but an exploration to gauge its viability. And I'm thrilled with the preliminary results - it's operational, and the learning curve is exciting.

Approaching lifestyle or leadership changes with the mindset of undertaking a manageable 4km walk rather than a daunting marathon can significantly ease the transition process. It's about perceiving change as experimental, achievable and gratifying, not overwhelming.

My hydroponics setup is an experiment, nothing more. Should it continue to succeed, I will be delighted. However, if it falters, the insights gained from what didn't work are invaluable. After all, it's not a catastrophe, but a stepping stone in the continual learning process.

2. Reflections

The ability to respond positively to feedback, irrespective of its nature, sets mature leaders apart. Acknowledging feedback with gratitude, whether it aligns with your self-perception or not, is critical in demonstrating your openness to learn and improve. It is also critical to ensuring that you continue to receive balanced information.

3. Tools for Transformation

How do we get to better decisions on priorities faster?

Let’s delve into the Eisenhower Matrix, an invaluable tool for decision-making and prioritisation. This matrix empowers you to categorise tasks based on their urgency and importance, facilitating a strategic approach to your daily to-dos. By distinguishing between tasks that are urgent, important, both, or neither, the Eisenhower Matrix guides you in allocating your time and resources to what truly matters. This not only enhances productivity but also alleviates stress, allowing you to focus on your long-term objectives.

The 10% Differentiator - OUT NOW!

Imagine someone with all the right skills and knowledge. What's that little extra they need to focus on? It's simple things: building relationships, listening to feedback, really getting to know others, and showing they care. These small actions make a big difference in being a great leader.

These observations inspired my research and became the driving force behind my new book.
